We did our last day of field work on Thursday, and then spent Friday making our way to our respective homes. I finished my journey home on Saturday morning. (My bag wasn’t quite so prompt, and caught up with me on Saturday night.)
We met our goals in the Atacama. We learned a tremendous amount about the environment our drill will be operating in, and the materials it will encounter. We also aided the other instrument teams with all the subsurface access and sampling support that we could provide. In doing so, we learned a lot about what particular things make a sample interesting to them – and that knowledge will help us to design and build hardware that meets their needs.
