Kris and Gale are off to Greenland as part of a NASA-funded effort to explore ways of monitoring methane on Mars. The project is part of the ASTEP program, and is led by Principal Investigator Lisa Pratt of Indiana University. Over the next several days they will be deploying specially designed “sniffer” drills for capturing methane released from the ground.
About the Exploration Technology GroupHoneybee Robotics Exploration Technology Group engineers and builds terrestrial and extraterrestrial drilling, excavation, and geotechnical systems, as well as sample acquisition, transfer and processing technologies. Because these systems are autonomous, smart, low power, light-weight, and low-mass, they have application not only in space, but here on earth in mining and petroleum applications.
