Greenland – April 8 2014

We continued sampling the Gossan today but this time with the Hilti drill which allowed us to use rotation together with percussion so we could drill into harder material and acquire more cuttings. We drilled a total of four holes with an average depth of about 30 inches which was a sufficient depth because we were drilling in the base layer.

A nice photo showing how we documented drill depth.

In between each 2-3 inch drill increment Lisa collected cuttings into ziplock bags – without her mittens which was not a very easy task in the – 12C temperatures.

We got back to the ranch in the late afternoon and prepared/packed equipment for tomorrow. We will be testing our autonomous IB2 drill at a Mars analog site Lisa has specially selected for our drill. So stay posted for tomorrows blog!
