Summit Station, Greenland – June 4, 2019

Today we had the pleasure of hitching a ride from the Air National Guard’s 109th Airlift Wing on the iconic LC-130 to Summit Station. The two-hour flight was concluded with a smooth landing as the aircraft’s skis touched down on the packed snow runway at Summit. We quickly switched into our extreme cold weather gear and made our way off the plane, where we were greeted by one of the Summit staff members. We made our way over to “The Big House” which is the main lounge and meet-up area of the station. After orientation and a quick tour of the grounds, we were shown to our living quarters. Due to a polar bear visit last year, the station switched from arctic oven tents to hard sided cabins. Tomorrow we will have our first morning meeting with the group and then go through some additional orientation. We will also have the opportunity to dig through our cargo and hopefully begin assembly of the drill. Once acclimated (and weather permitting), we will begin moving cargo towards the drill site.
