Summit Station, Greenland – June 9, 2019

Summit Station, Day 6 (6/9/2019):

Today was our first day drilling. We took things slow to gauge the performance of the coring equipment and learn the optimal parameters for maximizing core length while still maintaining quality of the cores, which we are preserving for further analysis. We only managed to drill a couple of meters today during this learning process, but we are happy to have found a rhythm and comfortable pace which will set the tone for tomorrow, where we will start from 85.5 meters. We even recorded a 49 cm core… not bad for our first day! Updates may slow down a bit as we anticipate a few steady days of drilling and preserving cores, but we will be sure to update on milestones as we continue to reach record setting depths for Honeybee!
